ONCOLOGY SKINCARE

Many skin issues can develop

from cancer and cancer treatments which

can cause compromised skin.

What Is Compromised Skin?

Redness • Dryness • Irritation • Sensitivity • Itchy skin

Acne breakouts • Red or white spots that are dry or secrete fluid Flaking skin • Dehydrated skin • Thin fragile skin

Compromised skin is damage to the skin’s natural barrier. When the skin becomes compromised it is unable to sustain proper moisture levels to protect the skin from environmental toxins and uv damage. The skin loses its ability to facilitate in processing essential nutrients, cell regeneration and repair resulting in premature aging.

Depending on the health of your skin and your particular condition some skin conditions may not initially manifest during your cancer treatment. The more consecutive cancer  treatments you have the more your skin  becomes compromised which can eventually present itself as skin problems.  The more hydrated your body and skin is during your cancer treatments the less skin issues you will experience, however, skin hydration is more complex than just using a  good moisturizer and drinking plenty of water.

Why Scar Therapy Treatment Is

Important If You Have Had Surgery

A scar is non-elastic tissue with insufficient blood, oxygen and nutrients which causes adhesions. Adhesions adhere to muscle fibers, connective tissue and nerve cells which inhibit blood flow and lymph drainage. This can lead to impaired muscle, joint and organ function causing a limited range of motion and chronic pain.

Scar therapy is the palpation of scar(s) that uses stretching to break up scar tissue adhesions as well as using products and cold laser to stimulate blood flow to the area to induce repair, mobility, flexibility and tissue repair.

Facials should not

be a special treat after

the completion of cancer therapy

Facials are an important treatment during your cancer therapy to provide relief from compromised skin, reduce the occurrence of further skin issues and to avoid skin issues altogether as well as providing a relaxing, healing experience.
